MANILA - Grab Philippines on Wednesday said it signed an agreement with the Intramuros Administration and the Department of Tourism (DOT) for the free use of its e-scooters within the Manila heritage site.
Under the deal, 30 GrabWheels units will be deployed for public use free of charge for at least 3 months to provide tourists with a “safe, fun, eco-friendly way” to explore the heritage site, the ride-hailing firm said.
The e-scooters can help promote "instragrammable" Intramuros in a sustainable way with less carbon footprint and will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the area, Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said.
The two-wheeled personal mobility device (PMD) is a “good way to move around and access heritage sites," Grab Philippines president Brian Cu said.
Grab Philippines and the DOT also signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the country. Under the deal, partner-vehicles will help highlight and disseminate digital tourism materials to prospective tourists.
Tourism arrivals for the first half of the year has reached 4.1 million, Puyat said, adding that the goal was to reach a total 8.2 million this year.
