Jose Rizal in Europe: An Art Exhibit

In celebration of Museum and Galleries Month, the Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort Santiago shall be launching an exhibition of paintings, “Jose Rizal in Europe”, to be permanently displayed in the opening walls of the Silid-Pagnilay. The exhibit which is mainly inspired by Filipinism, described by Jose P. Laurel as the assertion of one’s national birth right with patriotism, displays a collection of paintings and aims to illustrate in the art scene “the real identity of artists as Filipinos”.

The exhibit Jose Rizal in Europe, which is truly enthused by the life of Dr. Jose Rizal in various European countries like Belgium, Switzerland and Germany, provides limelight of the artists’ heart and soul in view of “what makes art Filipino” – making their art worthy of recognition here and abroad through the efforts of renowned Art Impresario, Curator and Managing Director of Kunst Filipino Virgilio Bayani Godoy Cuizon.

Among the museum’s art donors, whose paintings were semi-finalists in the professional category featured in an International Painting Contest in 2014, are artists Arthur Marcelo, Jorge Banawa, Eliseo Perreras Jr., Bryan Yabut, Efren Carpio, John Perry Pellejera, Petronilo Gonzales Jr., Ronna Manansala, Vincent Gonzales and Rodel Bautista. The said artworks shall be a part of the museum’s permanent collection of paintings.
The exhibit shall be opened for public viewing starting 18 October 2022 at the Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort Santiago.
